The traditon
In Chinese gardens, we often see pieces of stone in odd shapes. They are often placed alongside plants and ponds, serving to simulate an image of mountains and seas.
These stones are called Taihu stones 太湖石 (literally «stones of the great lake»). As the name suggests, these stones are created by the natural flow of the lake. People put entire pieces of limestone into the lake and with time, the lake does the work naturally, carving pores and holes in stones.
Our contemporary crafts
To introduce Taihu stones to modern interior design, we introduce various types of stones in the fabrication, while also reducing their size to better fit the settings of apartments.
Furthermore, we experiment with the aesthetic of Taihu stones. By incorporating the technique of porcelain, we become able to carve and design the shape and the size of the stones. Porcelain also gives the stone an extra layer of beauty with its unique colour and texture.
